In February 2024, we took a trip to Tahiti; Sydney, Australia; and Auckland, New Zealand. Tahiti was designed to be our acclimating stop before heading to Sydney. We wanted a few days to rest and recover from a long day of traveling with an almost 9 month old. For our first night in Tahiti, we stayed at Intercontinental Tahiti Resort & Spa. We selected this property primarily due to the close proximity to the airport; Intercontinental Tahiti is a less than 10 minute drive from the airport.

We booked a rental car for our entire time in Tahiti and driving to the property was quick and easy. Additionally, parking was straightforward at the resort and was included with our stay. Our main goal was to go to Moorea. However, due to our flight landing late in the evening, there were no more ferries going to Moorea. If you are planning a trip to Moorea, be sure to check out the ferry schedule. We needed a safe, clean, and comfortable place to stay for an evening, and this resort delivered just that.

Rooms & Accommodations

We stayed in a Classic Room for our 1 night stay. After booking this hotel, we called to request a pack and play or “baby bed” for our infant. For this trip, we decided to leave our own pack and play at home. Anyone who has traveled with children knows that they require A LOT of extra things. Even having one less bag to squeeze into our rental car was a gamechanger. The pack and play was already set up for us with sheets and ready to go which was perfect after a very long day. I did pack our own bed sheets, but after staying in 5 different rooms during this trip, I learned that most pack and plays we used were not compatible with our sheets. Next time, I will leave the sheets at home to save room for something else! 

Experience

We were not at the hotel long enough to fully enjoy it everything it has to offer. For example, our room had a balcony with a sitting area. I imagine this would be a great spot to have some coffee before heading down to breakfast. There’s always next time, right?

We did get the chance to walk around the property after breakfast. There is no doubt that the property is stunning and boasts beautiful views. While we chose to stay in a classic room for this short stay, this resort does have many options for overwater bungalows. There are bungalows with ocean views and some with views of Moorea. If you want a little more space, there are even options for overwater bungalow suites. We stopped and chatted with a couple who was staying in one of the overwater rooms, and they highly recommended it.

Pools

Simply put – we really wish we would have had more time to fully enjoy this resort. They have 2 pools on the property, and we would have spent an entire day just alternating between the two pools. The pool known as Le Lotus has beautiful views of Moorea. The hotel also has the option to reserve a day pass for the pool for guests not staying at the hotel. This seems like a great option for those who want to try out the hotel before committing to a stay or for those who have guests staying elsewhere.

While on our walk, we stopped to look at the various sea creatures and even chatted with some workers who were feeding the turtles.

After taking a walk around the property, we went back to our rooms to pack up and head to the ferry. The concierge was extremely helpful and assisted us with booking the ferry. There was a language barrier when trying to book it, so we really appreciated having the concierge. We were able to take our rental car on the ferry as well which made it very easy to drive around Moorea.

Food & Dining

No hotel review would be complete without talking about the food and the Intercontinental Tahiti Resort & Spa is no exception. The only meal we had at this property was breakfast where we selected the buffet. There were plenty of options for all diets including pancakes, potatoes, fruit, cereals, yogurts, meats, cheeses, breads, and juices. Ice was used to keep refrigerated items cool, and food was covered to keep away the flies. We were seated right away and given a high chair. On Sundays, you can experience a special Tahitian Sunday brunch.

At breakfast we were visited by the resident cat and rooster. This must be “a thing” in Tahiti because we saw these animals everywhere we went!

In conclusion, we enjoyed the breakfast buffet, but do wish we had had more time to try other food and restaurants on the property.

The Uncorked Truth

1. IC Tahiti is a fantastic option for a close stay to the airport.
2. This hotel and spa is baby friendly including a pack and play in room and high chair at the restaurant.
3. There is plenty to do for everyone here including swimming in one of the two resort pools, relaxing at the spa, working out in the fitness center, walking around the property, sunbathing in the lounge chairs, experiencing a cultural demonstration, and much more.
