Introduction

Every parent’s worst nightmare is having a sick baby or child. Having a sick baby or child while traveling and away from home is another level! One way to help alleviate any stress around illness while traveling with a baby is to have a medicine and toiletry bag stocked and ready to go for travel purposes. I’ve rounded up everything I include in my baby’s bag. You might also be interested in reading our 11 tips for traveling with a baby under 1 and our baby travel essentials for 0-6 months.

  • Tylenol
    • Tylenol for Infants is great for pain and fever. We frequently use Tylenol while traveling specifically for teething. Our son has cut quite a few teeth while traveling, so this is an essential item for us. Be sure to check with your pediatrician for specific dosage requirements as this changes with age and weight.
  • Motrin
    • Motrin is also great for pain and fever and can be alternated with Tylenol. Consult with your pediatrician for this medication as well to confirm the correct dosage.
  • Benadryl
    • Benadryl is something that we hope we won’t have to use while traveling, but as soon as we started our son on solid foods, we started including Benadryl in case of an allergic reaction. This is another medication that you want to be sure to ask your child’s doctor about for proper dosage.
  • Aquaphor
    • Aquaphor is our go-to for all things diaper rash. I love this size bottle for travel purposes.
  • Baby / Toddler Toothbrush
    • We added this Dr. Brown’s toothbrush as soon as our baby got his first tooth! We have liked this toothbrush so far and enjoy how soft it is. It is good for 0-3 years which is also a plus!
  • Thermometer
    • This Frida Baby thermometer is great because it is a 3-in-1 device meaning it works for rectal, oral, and armpit readings. It is very small and compact which we really like for traveling so we can try to keep things as light as possible. We will use a sanitizing wipe to clean in between uses.
  • Nail Grinder
    • From Day 1, babies have very sharp nails. We were always a little afraid to use nail clippers on our son, so we opted for this nail grinder. It comes with many different grinder attachments based on baby’s age. It is powered by batteries, but in using it for over 14 months, I haven’t had to change the batteries yet. For traveling, we typically just bring the grinder with 1 attachment on it as opposed to bringing all of the small pieces.
  • Hair Brush
    • We absolutely love the Haaka brand, and just like many of their products, this hairbrush and comb duo does not disappoint. The brush is very soft on a newborn or toddler’s hair. You can choose to take one or both while traveling; we typically just bring the hairbrush in the drawstring pouch.
  • Electric Nose Sucker
    • This Frida Baby nose sucker is our favorite device for any nasal congestion or runny nose related issues. The best part about this device is that it is easy to clean and it is USB-C rechargeable. It comes with two different silicone tips to be used at different ages. For travel, we typically charge it ahead of time and bring it with one silicone tip installed without the hard case it comes in to save space.
